Brian and April Zawada often adventured to new Willamette Valley wineries on weekends following countless work trips to the area. Their visits grew into a shared dream to create something extraordinary, to cultivate a legacy rooted in their love for nature, the art of winemaking and each other.

In 2019, upon the recommendation of the Coleman’s and the Wrigley’s, they visited a rugged piece of land in the foothills of the Coast Mountains with 88 acres of mostly untouched land and a three-acre vineyard planted to Pinot noir at the top. It was perfect. They purchased it in September 2019 – Violet Vines was born!

With unwavering dedication, they have nurtured their vision and the McMinnville AVA vineyard meticulously into 26 acres of diverse varietals. They are already producing Pinot noir (five clones) and Chardonnay (two clones) from the vineyard, and starting with the 2025 vintage, they will produce estate Syrah, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc and Albariño.

Additionally, Brian and April planted five acres in The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater AVA, with Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre planted, with the first anticipated harvest being in 2024.
