Hari Mahesh’s love of wine and quest for discovering the world’s great wine regions ultimately led him to Oregon’s Willamette Valley. In 2015, he and his wife Paru relocated from San Jose, California to McMinnville with the goal of starting a vineyard and immersing themselves in the craft of winemaking. Beyond the valley’s quiet beauty, Hari was drawn to the deep respect local winemakers have for both the process and the land—the terroir that defines each wine.

After planting their vineyard in 2017, Hari and Paru established Smera Vineyards, committing to organic farming and a hands-on approach. With the support of a dedicated team, they have carefully nurtured their vines to produce exceptional fruit and high-quality wines.

Early in their journey, Hari recognized that Willamette Valley wines were underrepresented in both domestic and international markets. This insight led to the creation of ArtisanVino, an e-commerce platform focused on sharing the stories behind each bottle while offering a thoughtfully curated selection of wines from the region. Artisan Vino partners exclusively with small, boutique wineries producing fewer than 5,000 cases annually.
